Religious Indifference....

There is some good from the religious Indifference in the modern Industrialized world. After all, you don’t see things like “The Troubles” on a large scale anymore. OTOH, Understanding those that do is pretty near Impossible. With all the news about the FLDS Church, you hear a lot, “Why didn’t/don’t they….?”. Any “True Believer” of any Way can Understand why. Heck, my Aunt could. When I was born my Mom was still a Methodist and they had been married by a JOP. My Catholic Aunt kidnapped me and had me Baptized in “The One True Church”. After all, back then no one but Catholics(in her mind and that of the Church) went to Heaven. Having family like that and remembering their reactions last time a Pope came to the States, I asked my ACTIVE Catholic friends about it. It didn’t mean anything to them. The Pope was “irrelevant” to their lives. Think about it. In my Lifetime saying such in certain countries and even certain neighborhoods in the US could get you beaten if not killed. That’s the Positive. The Negative is that if it hadn’t been for True Believers AGAINST like Luther, there wouldn’t have been a Reformation, which led to the world we live in now. If Luther’d been like my friends, we’d all still be Catholics….
When you are that Indifferent, it makes you Unable to Understand someone who ISN’T. I listen to some of my friends talk and it’s obvious that they are Projecting their Indifference of Religious Expression on to others. Sure, they would leave if they felt Uncomfortable but if they didn’t Believe? They’d stick around. My women friends would leave the FLDS Church in a New York Minute. Most of my Guy friends would as well. And some would stick around for the mult young wives that have to do whatever they ask…
I guess that’s why I often Respect the Christians that attack me. At least they are doing it from their Convictions. Others? Let’s just say that if it’s not on factual or doctrinal lines, chances are I won’t…..
