Summer End Redux....
Sep. 2nd, 2009 07:18 amWell, 2009 was a sucky yr for fruit production. Actually, ANY production;>. Minor Fig harvest(which is usually too abundant;>!), a dessert or two each of Blueberries and Blackberries. I've got a couple "hands" on one of the Akebia vines(the one my neighbor keeps trying to kill...)and two Satsumas that might be ripe for Yule...
Of the veggies the only things that really did well were the Purple Sweet Potatoes and that's just from what they look like. I haven't dug any yet. A bit trepidatious I'm afraid;>. The Dryland Taros did well but unfortunately, Chuck doesn't like Taro(a texture thing, the ones I have are too "gummy" for him...). The Cassava looks good but it's about half the height of plants I've seen but those were grown in shade and mine are in Full Sun.
One of my projects is goingto be the removal of Ornamental plants from the environs of the fruit trees to maximize their food intake. Flowers are nice but most don't fill the stomach....
Cheers,
Pat
