Alt.Reality....
Sep. 2nd, 2012 07:59 amI didn't have as big of a reaction that a lot of my family and friends had with the Rep convention speakers and their lying according to Conventional Reality...probably because since I never quite fit anywhere, I'm usually at the "Event Horizon" of that community's Bubble Universe in COnsentual Reality.
I was exposd to the concept as a kid when my Dad Retired from the Army and we moved within Visiting distance of my older twin brothers...who were Survivalists.
Being the late 60's early 70's the idea of preparing for "The War" wasn't at all Alien, it was WHICH war they WERE that WAS. Here they and their "battalion/unit/whatever(name changed often)in Las Vegas were preparing for the day when all the "Coloureds"(the NICEST term they all ever used)would leave S California and invade. The COMPLETE NONSENSE of just crossing a desert to conquer a city in the desert when you could just go North(let alone the OBVIOUS craziness;>)was irrelivant. Or the idea that they would be able to buy ammo and c-rats with their gold(civilization has fallen but the local Military Surplus and Gun shoppe will be open;>). Or the....
Of course, in the late 70's I discovered:
Healthfood Stores
New Agers
With their own Universes. Both Bubble Universes from the outside have been brilliantly dealt with by 'S Park' and the comedian Patton Oswalt. Nuff Said there.
So, esp. for those inside their own Bubbles, being surprised by those in another? Probably because those IN one seldom realise they ARE...so they're not going to recognise those in others. The really sad thing is I'm using Metaphor. We really all share the same Reality. We just CHOOSE to ignore info that doesn't fit or reinforces our particular POV/Reality. After all, people who think giant puppets can stop internat'l industries and gov'ts shouldn't "throw stones"...
Cheers,
Pat
