My brother's been giving me BOXES of photos he found in the folks' ome after he scanned them. Otherwise he was going to toss them. Once again Sci-Fi is prescient.
Over a decade ago(maybe longer;>)I read a book in which the characters were interacting with Archeologists. They found that Tech civilizations left less than earlier materials for them to understand them because they switched to tech and when they Passed, the storage materials became just useless junk. We're here NOW.
While both myself and my brother are avid Readers, there is not a SINGLE book in his house. Everything's Digital. At least I kept my pre E books;>! This isn't even dealing with medium change. My family did a lot of Recording on Betamax. That's all lost. And VHS? Very little was transferred to DVD so it's all pretty much lost as well.
In a way it's silly. I'm saving old pics that will inevitably be tossed out after we Pass(unless The Fall happens 1st). But to me, at least I'm keeping part of my family's history safe from an E-disaster....for now.
Cheers,
Pat
