Apr. 23rd, 2009 07:29 amThis gem from the BBC during it's peak performance production period of the late 70's early 80's is worth digging for. It's 'Danger! UXB(Unexploded Bomb)!'. Set at the beginning of the Blitz, it's about one of the Bomb Squads that went defusing those that hadn't Exploded on impact. Until the series I thought most of those were duds, but it explained that Germany had learned form WWI that a bomb that didn't explode on impact often did more damage both to personnel and the psyches of the civilians than thase that had. Most of those that did explode were still active...not "duds".
The series focuses on AShe, an Engineering student that gets an Officer's commission to the Engineering division and finds out that he's been assigned to Bomb Disposal and that exept for a couple pamphets there is NO info on how to do so except trial and error...for which he's replacing the guy who didn't learn fast enough the day before....
For Vets of all wars, a lot of stuff they'll recognise as the "Dark Side" of Military Dicipline and Intelligence(like chastizing a guy who's saved 1000's of civilians and about million Pounds worth of Infrastructure for throwing away toast that a malfunctioning toaster turned to charcoal;>....).
A Great show....
