mdehnersI do get frustrated with my SIL's Beleifs. They're pretty standard Newage with a focus presently on Space Aliens and their various projects with Humanity. She tunes out that I've been in or at least interacted with the Newage-side of the Metaphysical community since the late 70's and I've YET to hear anything new...just the same stuff with different "wrapping". Since I'm Heathen and therefore "clueless"(ie: if you Beleive that there are God/desses, you're Ignorant because it's all "Energy"), anything I say is meaningless on the subject. And after a 4 yr relationship with one of the leaders of Theosophy in the late 80's and 90's...I've been through this before. Of course, now that I'm older, I no longer bother to "educate" on various points, congruent or no. It's just not going to work and wrecks the relationship.
Her newest is George Kavassilas whose stuff reminds me of the 'Church, Universal and Triumphant' material back in the late 70's that a number of friends of mine were involved in. One I think actually moved to their compound to survive the "Earth Changes"....which never happened, of course.
One of the main things about pretty much all Newage stuff that I don't like is that it doesn't work. What i mean by that is that nothing gets done on the Physical Plane, other than make the person feel good about Beleifs they already have.
Another is that much of it is parasitic. What I mean by that is the Beleiver needs someone to support them while they are off doing conferences, conventions, workshops, etc. You can't work full time and "do the circuit" unless you're a Presenter. It's hardly surprising that stats show much of the Newage community to be Middle-Aged females in conventional relationships. Kids are gone, they always had these Beleifs and now they havethe time and funds available to expore them. Nothing wrong with that, of course. It just always Pissed me off the Pitying Looks those that didn't have to work gave those that couldn't make a particular event because they were "Tied to the Material Plane".
It's Useless to talk because their Answers(from their present Worldview) are already given. And of Deeper Matters? Well, their present Teacher will reveal those "in the Fullness of Time"...oddly, never in the time that particular person is following that particular Teacher...
Of Space Aliens in particular? Beleive they Exist. Even Beleive they not only did in the Past but do so today. I also Beleive that the Ancestors Built all those things that Newagers give their Giant Fetus Friends credit for. I also Beleive that ANY race Advanced enough to travel between the Stars would not be using the sort that usually spouts "Interstellar Wisdom"....
