No, I'm not repeating myself;>. This time it's the movie based on the Anime. As I stated in my review of the Anime, this is the sort of thing that shows how much of the Spiritual Heritage of Europeans has been lost thanks to the Christian Occupancy. While some of the info about Sapient and sub Spiritual Beings have survived, basically none about those of animal or lower have. The 1st time I saw the Anime I was gobsmacked because I saw what I Experienced: that there was an Ecology of Energy-based Life occupying the same space as Material-based.
Mushi, in Japanese culture are the Spritit-equivalents of lower animals in that ecology;Insects, fish, etc. They are part of Nature and cause harm to Humans when they move into their territories. Mushi-Shi are those who can both See and have learned about the Mushi, much as an etemologist does about Insects...as well as how to treat them when they infest Humans or their properties. A good example of that is the 1st story about a mt village where most of the inhabitants have lost their Hearing in one ear. Ginko, the central Mushi-shi in the series and flick diagnose that that they've been Infested by Unn, a Sonivore Mushi that live in the deep Woods. Normally, they go Dormant in Winter because the heavy snow deadens Sound but when Humans moved into their territory and built the village AND being active yr round(wit it's accompanying noise and chatter) some didn't go into Hibernation and were happily nesting in the ears of the residents. But one Unn per person...they're Solitary Feeders, only gathering together to Hibernate;>...
Lots of Interesting stuff for both Japanophiles and those who wish to see what a vibrant Spiritual Culture looks like, or what we must have had before the Followers of the Avatar of one of the Sinai War Gods came to Europe....
Cheers,
Pat
