So, Spring is here in "The Dangley Bits". The car is covered with Oak Pollen, the Crab-apples and Bradford Pears are starting to bloom though early by a few eeeks. The weird thing is that the Redbuds haven't and they're usually the 1st ones on. This weird Winter fkked everything up;>!
Starting to see Daffodil buds and the wild Violets in the garden and yard are in full bloom. Most things haven't broken Dormancy but it's just a matter of time. Once the Maples bloom, we'll know that Frost Danger is over and usually they bloom after the Redbuds and before the Crabs and Pears.
After yesterday's MD trip(most of mine are in our old town 40 miles away) I'm pretty much toast and so no big projects. Did a little Pruning and went through the potting shed for some pots that can be used to pot up some of my Orchids in the near future. The trick with them is potting them up JUST as they start growing becaus the shoot and roots are so brittle you can lose a whole yr's growth with a gentle bump. My Nun's Orchids(Phais species and hybrids) have buds and in the case of a cross between it and a Calanthe Orchid Blossoms. In the house most of the Moth Orchids and Dendrobiums are blooming as well as something I've NEVER been able to get to bloom before(in over 40 yrs of trying), A Cattleya Orchid(Corsage orchid). Got a White form of one of the compact species and it BLOOMED! Lovely scent too, like Gardenia.
Next week I'll borrow my brother's dolly so to move some containerized trees that are just a BIT too heavy for this old queen to move without assistance;>.
Cheers,
Pat
