Pruning out the Unproductive....
Jul. 10th, 2004 06:04 pmLet's see if this gets uploaded. About 1/2 the time it doesn't...the other 1/2 it posts multiples< G >!
While "That which dos not Kill you makes you Stronger" is often true, another important saying is, "Does This Nourish YOU?". Over the last couple of yrs I've been working to "Overcome" my "Packrat" Heritage on both the Spiritual and the Physical Planes. Two of the Biggest I'm giving up are Christians and Pagans, oddly for similar reasons.
On Christians:
I no longer go out of my way to "Educate" them. If One asks, I explain. If someone writes something stupid in the local Paper, I write back but nothing Beyond that. There is no way I'm going to convince a "Believer" that their particular Beliefs about My Beliefs are Erroneous. It's that "Teaching a pig to sing" bit. Wasted Energy...
On Pagans:
The same. "True Believers" are "True Beleivers", whether wearing polyester shirts and black ties or 30# of ugly silver jewelry. For over 15 yrs I've maintained the nessessity of retaining contact with the larger Pagan Community...I no longer do. Their Beliefs are as Alien as that of Christians or Inuit. I'll remain friends with Pagans but they are Friends that happen to be Pagan...like my Friends who just happen to be Christian.
While I still Beleive that Communication between the Branches of Heathenry are Important, I no longer Beleive that they are Necessary. Heathenry has Grown to the point that there is NO POINT for all to remain in the same "tent". In fact, I think it is this which is causing the anger between the Branches. ASH looking down at Asatruar, Folkish distrusting Universalists and vice veersa. Better not to "Live together" but instead Vacation Together< G >....
