I have a neighbor, a WWII Vet and Widower who has a pecan tree that's never ravaged like all the others on our block. The reason? In the 1st crotch of the tree he has a live-trap. Now, before all the Smurfs out there go "Ah...", he does this so that they are fresh. Yup. He learned to eat them during the Depression and has always supplemented 1st his family and now his diet with fresh, nut-fed meat.
I won't do the same with my own nemesii, the Possum and Racoon simply because their diet increases the levels of toxins in their meat. And while I've never eaten Racoon I have Possum and didn't care for it....
Cheers,
Pat

I once had a neighbour who used to cook squirrels she shot from trees by the roadside, on her way up to the cottage. Just the same, she learned about squirrel meat during the Depression. I didn't sample any though.
