I don’t Know why I so surprised. After all, I’ve been reading Mythology since I COULD read. Heck, even ol YHVH isn’t a 100% Wealful Deity, even to His Own. What’s Weird is that all my Spiritual Life I’ve never had folks dictate how I felt about Deity…until now. Now, I realize it’s mostly because I’m not on any active Asatru lists anymore that this is problematic. Before, whether they were Ultima-Unie or Folkish Fascists(as opposed to normal Folkish, which I’m one…), the differences were organizational, not Deeply Theological. Since my “Adventures in ASH”, many HAVE been. I guess I’d held up sort of an Arthurian “lens” to Heathenry before. Honor, Honesty, Right Action, etc, that sort of thing. Being about some folks that Core value is not only “Might=Right” but “Right is what you get away With” is upsetting. It shakes my whole world-view. I’d always seen ASH as a more Scholarly “denomination” and Theodism more so with Theodsman like Edmund as an example. Seems he and those like him are the Lights and I keep running into “Black Holes”. ‘Course, two of the biggest asses were so when they were Asatruar but at least they weren’t considered “noble” then...
Truth has always been central to my Practice all my Life. When my Beliefs have been Proved Wrong(like Wicca in the early “80’s for example), I rid myself of them. It’s hard for me to hear basically the SCA version, “We’re Recreating except where it makes us uncomfortable or doesn’t give those that start the club the top seats. I mean, there’s nothing Intrinsically Wrong about this EXCEPT when you present yourself as the more “Authentic”, more “Scholarly” ASH….
Personally, I’m over the whole thing. From now on Theodism is on the “shelf” with Hrafnar Heathenry…ALien.
