mdehnersI think about how much has changed in my lifetime for both "My Other Tribe" and for non-Christian religionists and I realise that while things are in general better, things are still shitty. In most of the country you can be fired and evictied simply because of your Orientation Legally and in areas where such is illegal, some continue Oppressing. Same with religious matters....
One of the saddest is that most folks don't realise that "Deprogrammers" are still arround. They just don't have the popular support they had 20 yrs ago. Families can still have their members kidnaped and "cured" of their non-Traditional religious or sexual orientation. Most news sources don't like to deal with these stories because, well they make them uncomfortable. They don't like to "deal" with Wholesome, Milk-fed folks as Villians.
One of the most sad is the recent kidnapping and possible Murder of a college student for being Gay. One thing many college kids don't know is that those Parental Controls on their services don't automatically disengage when they're at college, 19 or even 21 yrs of age. If you're still using your email and cells from when you lived with your folks, those controls still allow them to Peep...which is how a Fundie family found out about their son. The kid's boyfriend and his Mom have been trying to locate him since he was snatched for campus without luck. The biological family is acting squirrley so many have figured the kid probably died during Deprogramming(not everyone does well having their genitals tazered for Christ...). The cops of course are listening to the family, them being good, upstanding Christians.
The Good Thing is that when I was Coming Out this sort of thing was pretty normal. Now it's simply unusual. Hopefully, some day it'll be considered an Abberation....
