I’ve decided to give myself until Yule whether to “Walk Into The Woods” or not. It’s not that I’ve “Lost My Religion” or anything, I’ve just realized that for most folks in the Recon/Inspirationalist community, it’s not a religion, it’s an LRPG. Just another SCA or even Elks. I can think of no other religions where simply stating that the Deities of that religion Exist is a controversy.
Partly, I think it’s a coping mechanism. If They aren’t Real, then if folks Die and find out their Childhood religion was correct, they can state that it was “like the Masons”….just a club. Can’t “Burn in Hell” for belonging to a folklore club….right? I think one of the Weirdest was a comment on one of my lists where the Belief that the God/desses exist was just a step on that slippery slope to the Inquisition. It’s not surprising that the general Public thinks we’re just Play-Acting….many of us in Truth ARE.
If you asked an Ancestor if their God/desses Existed, they’d look at you like you were crazy. Even those that rejected Them, unlike Christianity and even in it’s early days with Christians didn’t deny that They Existed. I admit it. I don’t Understand folks who join religions who deny that even t he Deities of that religion Exist. I can sort of Understand the “coolness” of wanting to be “Outsider”, but that sort of thing usually wears off by your mid 20’s. ‘Course, some folks never do grow up.
Last night Frigga dropped Her spindle. I picked it up and gave it back to Her. Don’t Care what it meant. It was simply Good Manners. This simple statement tells you a lot about me….
