Weather Report....
Aug. 3rd, 2006 02:59 pmWhile we aren't even up to 50% of what we should have by now, the Rain we've had the last couple of weeks has certainly helped. It's even triggered a burst of Life throughout the area and my yard is filled with active Flora and Fauna. This is good since we just recieved the 1st Water bill since the well started to go Dry and they'll all just have to get by with Rainfall and what the well produces;>!
On the reviews, last yr's new veggie Wins Again! An Heirloom Eggplant from Cambodia called creatively 'Cambodian Giant', even with the Heaty and Drought still did better than the European and Japanese varieties. Also, I have a new fav Hot Pepper. A new one, 'Aji Limon'. Jalapeno-hot with a Citrus taste and just did fantastic. Not a "killer" like 'Thai Yellow', another new HP this yr that also did fantastic with this weather. And, of course, my old fav HP 'Tricolor Variegata'showed why it should be in every Pepper-lover's garden. A beautiful plant in itself with purple leaves, stems and flowers splashed with white producing Hot's that change from purple to white and red. Lots of presents for FIreheats this Jul;>!
I am realizing that the Summer garden here is going to be, with the exception of Eggplants a "condiment" garden. Herbs, Peppers(Hot, NONE of the Sweets did shit except of all things Bells but they rotted on plant before Ripening...)are pretty much the only things that do well with both Heat and Drought. It's time though to start the Fall garden though. "Northern" or "Early" Tomatoes get started this week and the catalogues get looked at for Fall/Spring and Winter Seeds.....
