New Yr's Project.....
Jan. 2nd, 2009 07:53 amIt saddened me to hear through the fan "grapevine" that the author Terry Pratchett is in the early stages of Alsheimer's. With my family's experiences with the disease, we Wish he and his family the best.
One of the things I've decided to do it to dig out bits for a 'Wit & Wisdom from Pratchett's Diskworld'. I've always loved these "plums" you find about his work, such as:
“There are hardly any excesses of the most crazed psychopath that can not be easily duplicated by a normal, kindly family man who just comes into work each day and has a job to do…”-“Small Gods”
Other theories about the ultimate start involve gods creating the universe out of the ribs, entrails and testicles of their fathers. They are interesting, not for what they tell us about cosmology but for what they say about the people. “Lords and Ladies”
“Witches aren’t like that.” said Magrat. ‘We live in harmony with the great cycles of Nature and do no harm to anyone and it’s wicked of them to say we don’t. We ought to fill their bones with hot lead.” ‘Wyrd Sisters’-Pratchett
Cheers,
Pat
