Spring Fever...
Feb. 7th, 2009 07:49 amCan't wait till it warms up. At least the Freeze is over for this week;>! Sent off an order for some rare seeds from a family-run Wildcrafting company and got the "fix'ns" for my 1st Lotus pot. It's a technique fro growing Lotus for food or Flowers a Thai neighbor told me about. You get one of those 20 gal trugs(basically, big plastic bucket with rope handles)and fill it a third to a half with a mix of equal amts of:Sand, PEat and Composted Cow Manure. Plant a Lotus tuber in it, fill with water in Full Sun. Every Spring you dump the pot, saving a bit for restarting and eat the rest.
Got to drag all the trees out of the shed and uncover all the tender plants that've been protected by old linens the last week. Think my neighbor's Pear won't be producing this yr, since it started Blooming a couple days before this Freeze, though there may be some that haven't opened and will provide me with some Pineapple Pears(her grandson that Inherited the property isn't "into fruit":>...
Cheers,
Pat
“Modern,” said Granny Weatherwax with a sniff. ‘When I was a gel, we had a lump of wax and some pins and we had to be content. We had to make our own enchantment in them days.” ‘Wyrd Sisters’-Pratchett
