Interesting.....

In one of Andrew Sullivan's posts on his blog, he pondered the reasons why so many folks in the West but particularly America are leaving religions...period. Not just Christianity. His comments that the combo of Islamic Violence, Fundie Bigotry and Catholic Hypocracy proabably did the most to turn folks off the subject of religion completely. Until recently, when most folks left a religion, it was to another one. Today, many are just "washing their hands" of the whole business....like my brother.
While this particularly upsets the devotely Catholic Sullivan(who's learned to compartmentalize a religion that abhores him...), it annoys me as well. I've run into these folks and as far as they are concerned, if the JCI faiths are BS(for them), then there is no point becasue that's all there is. There's some made up stuff(newage, Wicca, Modern Paganism, Scientology,etc) but nothing real. That's why being openly Heathen/Shinto/Hindu/Yoruban/etc is important. Folks know that there are Ways that are at least weren't whipped together last century...
