Pat's Redneck Vacation!
Apr. 3rd, 2009 02:18 pmWell, things were wet but OK...until we got to Mobile. 1st thing that happens is that some Eejit doesn't secure his crap in his pickup and the wind blows it off onto the road...which we promptly ran over. We THOUGHT things were OK.
We get to the Cruise terminal and find the road is underwater and no others are labeled, so we have a nice adventure through the docks of Mobile. When we finally get there, we find that the storm held them up and the ship was 2 hrs late. The eejit cop then funnels EVERYONE into a small parking lot, appearently thinking everyone carpooled. Because of this, we decide to go over to the car dealership. My brother had bought a car on-line there because it was a better price than wher he lived. They were going to do it after but since we had time to kill....
Well, we pull in to the dealership and see smoke boiling up from the engine. I guess if your car is going to have a major problem, having it at a place where they can fix or replace it isn't so bad;>. So, they take Dad's car in and the salesman gives us a usually 10 minute ride to the terminal. 45 minutes later;>...
Once we were on the ship things were great! 'Holiday' is one of the older ships and was a 'Katrina' relief vessel(which in most staterooms showed new everything. You'd have thought the Refugees would have been greatful but...). It was the type you'd see in the old 'Love Boat' series. I personally thought it had Character. Everyone else missed the mall that's in all the modern ships. We actually saw more shows on this one and met a nice Lesbian couple.
Leaving was a bit like arriving. we were supposed to dock at 0700 and did at 1300. My brother's car's battery was dead and so we had to find someone that would help(the staff as usual useless). 'Course, we had it much better than the next batch who had been placed on buses for 4 hrs at the time we left and were told that they would be on them at least 2 more hrs. Once we were off, and driving, things wer fine and the "kids" were so very glad to see us!
This was the 1st time we'd taken the Mobile terminal and it's location SHOWED. Think of your average Wal-Mart crowd on the high seas. We watched folks bring boxes of stuff from Sam's Club. They showed up at dinner in their Prom dresses, which they hadn't worn in at least a decade. They were Drunk.ALL. THE. TIME. They Puked. They Smoked themselves sick on Cuban Cigars(they bought as many as they could and when told they couldn't bring them in the states they tried to Smoke them all...). While there were quite a few great folks onboard, I'd never been on a cruise that was more like "Bike Week" than Bike Week!
They'll be Retiring Her soon. Kind of sad such a nice ship gets treated so badly in Her last yrs....
Truth,
Pat
