Growing with aids....
Jun. 5th, 2009 02:00 pmWe pwas have an added bit to our Planting; that there is always the real possibility that you won't be alive to see the results of your action(s). For many yrs I'd never plant anything that wouldn't produce within a couple yrs at least. No long term Planting.
I got over it after I realized that a decade had passed since I was told I MIGHT have a yr or two tops;>. Still, there is something hopeful and sad about planting something that won't Produce for a couple yrs. Will that Work pay off? Is it worth it? At present, not really...technically. I still buy more fruit than my trees produce but I do get things that aren't easily or cheaply available at the market. My Blueberries and Blackberries are just coming on(now, if the little Dino-descendants will leave me any;>)and these Rains are early enough that they haven't ruined the Figs(if it Rains heavily near their Maturity they expand and split. Bacteria turn them 1st into bad wine and then Vinegar...all in a 2 day period). I've got a bumper crop of Kaffir Limes so there's plenty of Thai cooking as well as Baths(the fruit smells like Bergamont. A single fruit squeezed into a Bath is not only good for the Mind, Body and Spirit, it makes your whole home smell wonderful!).
I Planted up the Atemoya I got this AM. My 1st fruits(after seeing that it had been shipped into a larger pot...)are now at least two yrs in the future at the earliest. I found recently two cultivars of Avocado that can handle our z8 climate but if I get them this Fall,will I still be around for thier 1st fruits?
Like all previous, I'm getting them. For me, even if I don't live to see them Produce. Even when I know that when I die, all of them will die with me(we Rent from my Brother who beleives Property should be neat, properly Chemed and easily maintained). I guess if the Regin and the Universe want these plants to live, they'll have to keep keeping me around for them;>....
