You Know it's August, when Boo-Boo only goes out his doggy-door if he absolutely has too;>! This yr's been exceptionally Hot and he's shedding even more than normal. even with daily brushing, he sheds enough that I sweep up easily one of those bathroom garbage cans-worth of fur.
If it hadn't been for the High Humidity, this yr would have been one of the worst Fire-wise in a while. It's been so Humid that even without Rain Algae is growing on the North side of the house. Mind you, it's a lovely shade but;>.....
I'll be trying a number of dishes next week while Chuck's at work because, quite simply he's worse than Morris at being "Finicky"". Trying cooked Taro or Sweet Potato leaves is not high on his "to do" list;>. I actually like Taro leaves, the problem is that each type has a different cooking time to convert them from Poisonous to Delicious and if you don't get the tubers from a grower...well you get to play the test kitchen roulette. Luckly, basically ANY cooking stops the Might Kill You portion of the evening, the wiggle room is whether the remaining toxins give you a sore throat or not. Generally, any food Taro is good after 1/2 hr boiling. My problem is simply using that much fuel for a leafy green that from other sources uses a 1/16 of it. However, it's good to Know the cooking times for stuff on your property if things ever go "Belly up".
As I've pointed out before, I really don't think there's that much difference between being Prepared for a short-term emergency and an EOTWAWKI event, other than size. And if you're Prepped for the short term, you've got the Smarts to make it through the Long....as long as the Giant Spiders, Zombies or Chinese soldiers don't eat you;>!
Cheers,
Pat
