This is a question most of us in the alt-rel world try to avail asking. After all, it brings up bad memories of our childhood religions. For most of us, we knew what YHVH/Jehovah wanted ffrom us; a constant aura-fluffing due to His poor Self-Image. After all, He knows He isn't the only Diety in Existance, so He starts out Knowing He isn't "all that";>. Basically, all that most of us Know is that we aren't Following Dieties that need a chorus to tell them constantly, "Who's a Good God! Who's a Powerful God! Who's the bestest and only God ever!".
So....what DO They want from us? It can get complicated, being that we don't Follow the same God/desses or Pantheons. This is where Lore is very important. You find out what They(your God/desses) asked of their folk in times when They were Followed openly. Of Course, that was particualr to a paricular culture that no longer exists, so you have to work out the Core Concepts behind the acts. And as we all know, a lot of folks are just not all that enthused about doing work of any type, even in "Religions with Homework". Add in, IMO religions where their Dieties didn't exist until the last century and things get complicated....
To me, the only Dieties worth Following are those that want their Followers to Grow into Helpmates, not sycopants. 'Course, that falls back into Work, and we know how a lot of folks feel about that! It's easier not to Think and just "go with the flow". Thing is, things in the "flow" get worn away....
Truth,
Pat
