DVD Recommendation:'ZMD'
Apr. 2nd, 2010 05:07 amThis poorly named(Stands for Zombies of Mass Distruction) low budget Horror-Comedy is uneven, but worth it, if you like such things as the 'Scary Movie' franchise. The really clever bit is that the Zombie movies they spoof are other low-budject obscure ones(after all, how many folks have seen LOTR's director's one;>?).
It follows the "adventures" of a Gay couple and an Iraqi-American girl returning to their Redneck hometown just in time for a Zombie outbreak. The usual social commentary that so many directors have to throw in as well.
Some of the funniest(and in some cases for Gays watching trigger memories) deal with the Gay couple. One of the best is when the "Compashionate Conservatives" of the Fundie church they and the town Democrat take refuge in(warning the congregation thaty beleives only after one of them gets eaten after ignoring the Demopcrat...)decide not to throw the Gays to the Zombies but to put them through a conversion therapy machine to "cure" them. Sadly, it hadn't been used since the early 60's and the period "Men's Fitness" material wasn't "erotic" to the modern Gays...who found skinny guys in basically diapers flexing funny as Hell....
The Iraqi American girl gets the usual Racist crap up to being considered a terrorist. Her torturing neighbor gets his son angry enough to point out that Pop is from Canada, for which he replies, "Canadians ARE Americans"....something my Canadian friends would take issue with;>....
