DVD Recommendation: 'Moral Oral'
Jan. 21st, 2012 07:02 amI know, I reviewed this "Adult Swim" offering a while back but now it's on DVD and accessible to those that missed it on 'Cartoon Network'.If you have a twisted sense of Humor and esp if you grew up in or around "Big C" Christians, you'll Love this series!
'MO' is a satire of a stop-action Christian kiddie show prevalent in the Midwest and South in the 70's(and still seen on channel's here in the Bible Belt, esp on Saturdays to compete with the "heathen" offerings;>). Oral is a TRUE BELEIVER. The King James Bible is LITERALLY the WORD and being a Good Boy, lives his life accordingly....usually ending up with him being taken to his father's study for a "whuppn" for "misunderstanding"...doing what the Bible SAYS, not what "It reaaallly Means".
The 1st episode will give you a "clue" what you're in for. After a sermon from Rev Putty about folks "Wasting Life", using the example of Lazarus Oral decides that all the people in the cemetary are "Sinning" because they've rejected God's "Gift of Life". After "borrowing" a book from the pile of those to be burned by the head Librarian Miss Censordall, he Raises his best friend's grandpa as a zombie. Noticing the smell, he removes their clothes and washes them up. They then go running amok, eating the townsfolks(being former members of the town of Moralton, they say "Grace" before eating someone;>). The town is Outraged and Oral gets a trip to his Dad's den.
Thing is, it's not the raising Zombies and their eating people that bothers the townsfolk, it's that they are NUDE. As the 11th Commandment States(the running joke is the "Lost" Commandments, which are all those things that Fundies Beleive but aren't actually in the Bible), Nudity is Naughty"....
You should at least Rent this one;>....
