Rant....

Chuck gets a "kick" out my reaction every time I see one of those pre-prepped meal commercials. I don't get it. I mean, I do Intellectually. Heck, my two older brothers(one whose still alive) never learned to do more than grill meat in 67 yrs on the planet. I just don't Emotionally. After all, a cookbook is an instruction manual and these two repaired some of the most complicated machines(gambling devices), yet...
It's sad. Guys older than me to my age didn't leasrn because their wives were to do that. Gals younger didn't learn because cooking was one of those "oppressive" things male domination made them do;>. And then, you have those under 30 who in general have never seen the actual vegetable(let alone the plant it came from) in it's unprocessed form and would have no idea what to do with it. It's just sad and not surprising the health problems in the Western and Westernizing worlds.
I'd posted on one of the Preparedness groups back in 1999 in response to those who were hiding their crops behind camo and such to prevent the "starving hordes" from taking their food that it wasn't necessary. If they weren't bearing, 90% of most folks wouldn't know what it was and sadly a fair number wouldn't recognise them when they WERE. There was a TV show that asked kids to i.d. veggies. Some couldn't even a POTATO!!!!!!!!!!!
Basic cooking isn't hard. Cookbooks are written with easy instructions(and from someone who's assembled a lot of things requiring the buyer to do so I KNOW;>). And "Home Cooking" doesn't take that much time. YEsterday's dinner, Chicken and Broccoli took a total of 5 minutes to prep and 30 minutes to steam(I don't consider turning on a steamer and ignoring it till the bell goes off work;>).
And it's a lot better for you than some chemicallized boxed stodge you "nuke"....
Cheers,
Pat
