One big shock to those coming to Heathenry from other members of "The Archaic Renaissance"(I heard this term for Reconstructionist/Inspirationalist pagan Ways back in the 80's and LOVED IT)is the lack of fixed Holy Days. In the Yngling Saga part of the Lore all is mentioned is to Sacrifice near Winter's Day, Mid-Winter and Summer's Day....and depending on Tribal, Regional and a whole host of other factors means they're Celebrated on many different days. So, unless you're part of a kindred or affiliated with a particular Branch of Heathenry, you're left on your own pretty much. I have a number of books from various Heathen Branches and Authors and pretty much the only one MOST agree on is Yule. If you take Yule to mean the Winter Solstice, then you'd probably Celebrate Summer Solstice. If however you Celebrate on Dec 25th(which some do) then "Summer's Day" could mean a number of things. Personally, by preference I Celebrate them as Winter Solstice, Summer SOlstice and Near Samhain...too many yrs of Celtic Culture to feel comfortable ignoring that Time of Yr probably;>.
As for the rest? Different Ways and Kindreds Celebrate those they Feel that they SHOULD. Me? I usually Celebrate as well "The Charming of the Plow" because I grow a fair amt of my own food and it's historical time fits with prepping for SPring Planting here in "The Dangly Bits". Then, of course are Blots(Rites) for particular reasons; Situations or Dieties.....
Cheers,
Pat
