1st Steps with Diabetes......
Sep. 24th, 2012 07:10 amSo far, so good. I've adjusted to the side effects of my "oral insulin"(much to Chuck's relief;>)and have done all the work that the Diabetes Program here in "The Dangly Bits" provides(they use Portions instead of Carb-Counting, a "Good Thing" from the inability of some at the class to do 1st grade Math without a calculator...). What it di say was that , yet again I'm going to have to "deal" with a disbelieving doc. According to the guidlines, I actually don't get all my daily portions of Dairy and Fat/Sweet(usually by 1)and get too much Veg and Protien(usually 1 or 2). Yes, I get 1-3 more portions of Starch over but consider 3 portions adds up to a cup of cooked rice...I don't think my diet was too bad;>!
What this DOES mean is yet again I have to go through the wasted effort and energy to convince an MD that I didn't become DIabetic due to being a "fat slob"(I'll accept fat but slob;>?)but due to med side effects.....side effects which had already had me on 4 other gland replacement therapies!
Oh well.
The Good Thing for me is that changing my diet isn't going to be that big of a deal to me. Heck, a carton of Ice Cream lasts me a month and this was BEFORE diagnosis! I'm not too sure about increasing my fat intake though. I guess I'll stirfry a few meals a week instead of my usual Steaming. I do like Cheese so I guess I'll pick up some really good stuff and have a snack every day instead of my usual fresh fruit.
Cheers,
Pat
