The more you Know, the Less you DO.....
Nov. 17th, 2012 12:07 pmIt's funny but quite True. Pretty much every text, Fantasy or Mythology dealing with either Magic or Gifts hold the same Concept.
When you're a young _____, you are pretty much constantly "Doing It"(and yes, it IS a lot like learning to masterbate;>). 'Course, this is where we Lose a lot of folks. They:
Ignore Consensual Reality and create a lifestyle of minimum Productivity
Get lost in "Glamour" and Beleive they are equivalent to those IN their fav Book or Myth
Go Insane
Get Scared and run...usually to the most repressive Beleif System in their area.
If you DO make it through those yrs(usually by being a Grounded, Practical person, which explains why so many never do very well), you learn that what you have is no different than someone elses Gift of Math, Art, Martial Arts, etc. And just like those Gifts, they are used when needed and appropriate.
It always amuses me the reaction I get from some folks(usually young and/or newaged)that I generally consider both Magic and my Gifts that to be used after all regular avenues are exhausted. One is simple; EVERY EFFORT REQUIRES ENERGY and "mundane" methods take the least. Another is perhaps just a leftover of childhood programming in that both/either parent or YHVH gets annoyed if you go to them 1st instead of trying to do it yourself;>. It's probably one of the many reasons Heathenry "works" so well with me....the Tivar are more like good Teachers than indulgent Parents.
Also, as you get older you get to know yourself better. I've been Journalling since the early 80's and when I read those old entries about my Practice(s)I often shake my head at the amt of time and effort I'd spent Metaphysically wher doing it Mundane Style would have taken less time,energy and sometime would have been more effective(at least I always put in a resume for the job I was doing a Rite for....not like SOME FOLKS;>). Oft when you're young it's the Doing Woo that's the important thing, not that it needs Woo to "Get'R Done".
Then there is something that used to be standard knowlege back "When" that seems to have been lost; that you have the most Power when your Gifts Awaken. Like a stream that was dammed and suddenly breaks you have a burst of water, then it's back to just the stream. Unfortunately, since this Knowlege seems to have gotten lost generally in the last 40 yrs you have folks acting like addicts who are realising they're no longer getting the "hit" they used to and chase ways to get It....oft ending in a fucked up person either Institutionalised(Hospital or Jail) or "Churched"....doing the Christian Talk Circuit about thier time as a "Practicing Satanic Witch/Sorceror".
If you make it, you find yourself derided by "Young'ns" who don't Beleive you because you don't schlep around in robes all day casting Spells, Making Charms or Doing Readings....which is what they'd do(and probably ARE when the can;>).
In a way this is good because that is the way it SHOULD BE. Those that CAN work quietly behind the scenes, living quiet Public lives. 'Course, that way when things go tits up the torch-bearing mob's more likely to go for the "Half-Astral" twit running around in a Rayon Robe and 30# of ugly jewelry than the neighbor who helps quietly around the neighborhood....
