This may or may not upload to LJ, since I've been having problems with it for a couple of days;>....
As I've mentioned before, I don't "Do" Resolutions. What I do is around Fall come up with projects forthe coming yr and usually end up starting them. By the time actual NY's happens they are either going fairly smoothly or proved unworkable at the present time.
A big one this yr is to De-tox our life, which started with Chuck having a reaction to some bathroom cleaner and has been slowly changing everything in our home. The 1st, of course was the bathroom cleaner but unfortunately there has been a bit of "backsliding" in Chuck's case because he hasn'r been really impressed with the more non-toxic cleaners, home made OR commercial. At least the peroxide-based ones aren't causing him skin rashes!
Switching to Laundry soap instead of detergent was the 1st big "win" of the project. The cost was lower(we make our own), the clothes cleaner and fresher-smelling AND no need for fabric softeners. The Dishwashing liquid was switched to a commercial product as was the dishwasher. Handwashing soap turned semisolid once the Temps dropped(as did the Castile Bodywash) and homemade dishwasher soap required too much work to prevent film on glasses.
Back in the bathroom, like the dishwashing soap we found that using a Castile soap basse from Coconut Oil causes the product to become semisolid at Temps lower than 75F. Kinda gross as a bathwash;>! After a skin infection caused by a scrub that hadn't been sterilized in a couple days I'm switching to bar soaps; one Castle, one Lye. Shampoo at the moment is still commercial but we're trying recipes.
Our floors are lo longer mopped with cleaning solution but steam. One effect neither of us were expecting was Feeling that the house's Energy was "Lighter" after steam-cleaning the floors, as opposed even with a vinegar solution. Also, neither of us have had foot fungi since!
Diet is also one of those projects. We buy Organic usually once a month when Chuck's SSI comes in. We've also switched to Brown Rice. I've tried oof-n-on for DECADES but couldn't stand the taste...until I tried the Short-grained. YUM!
The only drawback is that a ricecooker only partially cooks it unless you soak it 1st. I've found soaking Rice to Hot Water 1:2 ratio starting after breakfast and then plaing it in the cooker before dinner takes care of the problem(also, soaking is supposed to break down an enzyme that's not so good for us, appearantly;>).I've been increasing the Veg portions of every Dinner and decreasing the Starch since the Diabetes diagnosis, so with the exceptions of holiday eating with family;>.....
