It's been a couple of months since I had an Impulse to study up on Buddhism. It was Interesting and I found that if I'd not been Heathen, I definitely could have gone into Zen Buddhism.
After trying the Zen Buddhist method of Meditation, I ended up with this Sciatica. Not saying that sitting Zazen did it but;>....
However, being pretty much stuck housebound for a week and limited mobility to the present, I made it a habit daily...Prone, not sitting;>! Between it, Acupressure and my Physical Therapy exercises, I no longer need a cane to walk around the house and can get away with just a cane for short distances(unless that short distance is the Post Office, then it's the walker with the built in seat!).
Zen Meditation is a bit different from the other methods I've studied and practiced over the yrs in that there isn't a Goal. Sitting IS the Goal. Mult sources over the last 700 yrs that I've been reading pretty much say the same thing, that if ____(Enlightenment, Samsara, Nirvana, etc)is the reason you are doing Zazen, then you WON'T. So the experience IS a bit different, while the methodology isn't really from more than a handful of methods I'm "fluent" in. I admit that it HAS helped my Sciatica though....not that I'm doing it for that of course;>!
Cheers,
Pat
