Tolerance.....
Sep. 6th, 2014 01:50 pmIt's funny that it took my Mom yrs ago for me to Understand that Tolerance is just what the definition says..."to TOLERATE". It's not another word for Acceptance, though a lot of "My Other Tribe" seems to think it is.
With my Mom(and Dad), it was back when Chuck and I were getting Handfasted(Pagan/Heathen wedding). Not just no family came, they didn't even send cards. After we moved here, the subject was on TV and my Mom made it clear by her comments that she didn't see our marriage equal to those of my brothers...even though mine was the only one that was religious. Even hers WASN'T. Like most of my generation and older, we Accept this because compared to what most of our contemporaries have, it's light yrs BETTER(most haven't even talked to theirs in decades and most of that is due to their parents disowning them, oft with VIOLENCE).
Tolerance isn't Acceptance. To Accept that it IS is to set yourself up to be hurt when someone you care for proves that they're "putting up with all that ___ stuff"(Pagans go through similar problems if from Christian families. Sadly us 'Mo's don't have to...).
It always amazes me how much of "Unconditional Love" comes WITH Conditions...
Cheers,
Pat
