Winter is coming!
Nov. 28th, 2017 11:32 amThe last order of bulbs arrived and are now planted. The Persimmon's leaves are not only fully coloured but now falling themselves. The Salvias and Pentas are still going gangbusters, giving the migrating Butterflies fuel for their travels.
The Maypop has escaped it's container and a wandering runner has popped up in one of the beds. I'll transplant it tomorrow. Now I'll have one for both front and back gardens! Not only are the blossoms lovely and sweet scented(and are the rare White form as well), they are the nurse plant for the Gulf Fritillary Butterfly. The Passionflowers at our old house provided enough that folks would drive by just to see the clouds of "Knock-off monarchs";>. Can't provide THAT much brose but at least enough to give the local population a boost.
Many of the early Spring bulbs are already breaking Dormancy; Freesias, Paperwhites, and a couple I can't remember their latin names;>. Come January I should begin to see some blossoms....
Cheers,
Pat
