Series Recommendation, 'Cheo-Yong'.....
Jan. 8th, 2018 09:29 amI admit that I watch a lot more K-tv than A-tv nowadays(though B-tv is still 1st;>). Truthfully, I like J-tv better but outside of Seattle and San Francisco it's hard to find but K-tv is a close 2nd. Probably because I'm more attuned to Japanese culture than Korean so sometimes I'm either confused or irritated by a non-compatible cultural product. I admit the most irritating thing about K-tv is that women under 30 are pretty much "plug-n-play", that is, the actress or the part is replaced with another pretty much indistinguishable one...a lot like American tv in the 70's and early 80's.
Oddly, one genre where those parts and actresses get more substantial is in their Supernatural dramas like 'Cheo-Yong'. There, women can be smart, attractive and take care of themselves, not just as an assessory to the male characters and actors.....
'Cheo-Yong' is a series about a police detective that can see and communicate with the spirits that were Human at one time, assisting him in solving his cases. CY is not the most sympathetic person. Arrogant, Macho and making Clint Eastwood's characters seem verbose he spends most of his cases avoiding his coworkers(which usually gets them in hot water because they have no clue what's really going on). In season one he's partnered up with a detective who's best friend had been killed by a Possessed man that CY had been hunting. Also, the station is haunted by the ghost of a highschool girl who has a "crush" on the youngest detective and can't leave the bldg. The 2nd starts with the unit disbanded after the final battle at the station....
Lot's of fun and thoughtful as well. One point brought up by the ghost in the station and a number of episodes is "are Evil Spirits dead bad people or can good people be twisted by the circumstances to become Evil?". At the beginning of the series CY's definitely in the Evil=Evil but when discovering that his Exorcising a spirit beating a man lead to the man's wife and unborn child dying; his anger killing both those responsible for his and her deaths but ANYONE in the way.....by the end of season one he's not so sure.
Still a bit of a prick though;>
Cheers,
Pat
