Family.....
Dec. 9th, 2018 08:58 amyou love them but if Honest many(if not most) wouldn't have been in your lives if they weren't related. Stuff that you wouldn't tolerate in a friend or acquaintance you have to "let slide" with family members simply to keep peace.
While my parents weren't that religious or conservative they WERE children pre-WW2. It's like decrying the Bigotry pre Civil Rights Era....DUH! ANY/EVERYTHING not White, Male and Protestant was at least "Unamerican". So, when you're a Gay Pagan Liberal....you can get the idea how my teen and young adulthood went;>!
My 2 older brothers are/were White Supremacists. In the 70's they moved out into the Nevada desert to protect Vegas from People of Color. Gary's still manning his position while Terry Passed before what he'd been waiting all his life for.
My Dad was career Army and NOT happy about what was going on during esp the 70's. Mom was upset when she found out I went to Temple with a Jewish friend. My younger brother's cool though.
His wife, OTOH in the last couple of decades has gone from "Bunnies&Lite" Newagism to full blown Trump cultist and R Wing Conspiracy follower. Which brought this subject forefront.
Chris is out visiting my older brother Gary and Sandi asked us out to lunch. I kept deflecting conversation every time she headed toward Praising the Messiah but when she said, "So, you're not thankful for all He's done for you?". Needless to say, I kept my cool well enough that we're all still family. Actually used her own words about "Everyone's Beliefs are valid to THEM" to her .
Family is a great Support but often it can be just as much Burden. It's less "Balance" and more "Juggling". That and a Dry Martini;>
