All Clear!
Mar. 8th, 2021 12:47 pmSo, once I calmed down and did some "Woo" I found out that all the pins and nerves were ok so it was just(JUST!;>) bad muscle pain.
Before and during all this I'd been researching the folk customs on the mid Appalachian area where I'm SOMEDAY going to be moving. I'd started writing a few times but deleted them because there's no way to discuss Rootworking/Conjure without comparing it to the Southern form, Hoodoo and you end up stepping right in it...
3 groups for the basis of ALL streams of this American Folk Tradition. Depending where you were along the Appalachians meant one of two were stronger. This is where the PC carp gets involved.
3 groups of Disenfranchised Peoples form this Christian Magical Folk Tradition: Poor Settlers from the British Isles, 1st Nations Folk and African Diaspora Peoples. The further South the stronger the African Influence becomes, though it is ALWAYS there....just not as strong the further North, which makes historical sense. However, there's been over the last 50 yrs both a popularization of the Southern Hoodoo Tradition with Politics. I've been Solitary too long to "deal" with Politics anymore and at this point stopped studying, figuring I'd got all a layman moving to the region needs.
There ARE magical concepts and practices I do like and am Interested in adding to my repertoire. Both 1st Nations and African Diaspora folks had a strong "Contamination as Cause" aspect to their magic and use many methods to Cleanse Persons or Spaces of Unwelcome Influences. While Cleansing Baths have always been part of my magical Practice the concepts of Washes to do the same with Places or Things really hadn't and the formulas are pretty much commonly known from European derived Herbal Magic.
Knowledge is ALWAYS GOOD. Use of it is where things can get tricky;>!
Cheers,
Pat
