I experienced something at my MD's today that I haven't since I lived in the Bay Area; Disability Shaming(don't know if there's a real term for it....probably is). Back then, I'd get krap for:
1:Being too young to be Disabled
2:Not being Disabled enough and my fav
3:Have "managed" my Disability and don't need _____
Today it was a bit of the last 2. I gave my MD at the hiv/aids clinic the paperwork to get my Parking Pass and she asked me, "Do you rrreeeeaaaalllly need that because there are people much worse off that you and there are so few spaces here in Tennessee". She sort of changed her tune when I pointed out that I use my cane at the clinic instead of the walker because the regular parking is right in front and the distance from car to patient room is short so I don't need it. She then said that the Pain MD should fill it out since my reason is due to Pain and not hiv. She did say if he wouldn't she would then.
I'm REEEAAAAALLLY HATING Tennessee's medical system.
Cheers,
Pat
