mdehnersIt’s been a good week God/dess-wise. With Bill Reaves taking over the Voluspa list, the amt of info has increased immensely. The downside is that there seems less personal experiences of the material with it becoming more class-like. I have to remember that this is organized by a Rydberg supporter so while the actual Lore is historical, the comments and ordering may not. Bill’s “mellowed” a lot in the last decade and a half…he makes that point when the Lore order and Interpretations switch world-views.
The point that Freya was not Gullvieg but Angriboda is a good one and makes sense to me. There has always been something about Freya being Identified as the Evil Witch that didn’t ring true to me. It’s unfortunately pretty standard. I remember in college taking an Anthro class and the teacher who’d done a bit of fieldwork loved to point out a rival who’d never been to or met the folk they studied. He identified a certain batch of tribal figurines as “Mother Goddess Figures”. The thing was, my teach HAD been there and actually asked them. They happened to be fetishes to prevent certain fatal diseases that caused the corpses to swell massively;>…..
And then there are weird moments that you don’t quite no what to do with, like today when Mani tells me HE isn’t Heimdallr…
