Feb. 19th, 2008 01:36 pmSigh. Day two of the most detested yrly yard project, the cleaning up of the Western Hedgerow. What makes it such a Pain is the very things that make it so Useful. It's made of Pecan, Fig and Pear trees intersperced with Azaleas and Roses. Thanks to the fruit, birds come an while eating poop what they ate previously and 'round hyar that's usually the Exotic and Invasive species;Cherry Laurel, Popcorn Tree, Lantana and Privet. There are a few Native pains; Greenbrair, wild Raspberry(which never produces any) and WIld Grape(again, without fruit). All are tangled and a royal pain to dig out. I did notice a good volunteer though, a Loquat Seedling(well, since last SPring it's 4 ft tall. Not in a good place but impossible to move it. Perhaps it'll still produce fruit anyway. And the leaves are a good cough Med too...
Picked up some "Lipozene" today at Home Depot. Well, the plant that it comes from. It's a relative of that giant Arum you see on TV every time one of their giant Blossoms open, except it's about as big as a soup bowl. Nice day for yardwork though. When I'm done with the hedgerow, I'll move the Cherokee Rose. I've already Pruned about 35 square feet of it and now all is left is digging up a rose with a trunk bigger than my thigh. Definitely pickaxe work;>....
