UPG,Lore et al....

mdehnersAs a “Lore Whore”, I oft discover areas where the Lore apparently contradicts itself. I use the term “apparently” because chances are, the info really doesn’t. Just as it has been collected or how we read it does….
One of the things Heathens esp. have to get out of their heads is the Idea of a Universal Old Religion. Yah, you Know it consciously, but Un? All you have to do is look at simply the modern English-speaking world and/or the religions Practiced(even the same one in different countries) and realize that this isn’t so and probably wasn’t . If you’re a Recon of a certain tribe, you at least have a “filter” for alien Heathen material. A generic Recon Heathen has one for non-Heathen material but within the diverse world of pre-C Nordic religions?
There’s no easy way. One that helps is simply common sense. If something is mentioned about a particular Regin, don’t automatically assume that it is Valid for ALL of the Others(our even a couple of Them). Don’t try to extrapolate something from a Landwight to a Greater Wight and vice-versa. Those that are Related MAY, but they MAY NOT just as well. If something is mentioned for a number of unrelated Regin, chances are you’re on firm soil(such as Blots and Sumbels).
As a Solitary, your personal UPG’s and Divine Experiences are fine to Practice. It’s just when you get others involved we have problems. All you have to do is look at how much non_lore-based stuff is in Modern Heathenry, esp from folks like Thorsson and accepted as “Gospel Truth”. “Frolicsome Freya” my Aunt Iona;>!!!!!
It’s Understandable though. A God/dess has Spoken to YOU. Also, They’ve given Info that sometimes contradicts the Lore. You want others to hear “The Good News”. The problem is that, avoiding the issue of WHO or WHAT may have come “Visiting”, that info was for you for your Present Life. It’s probably not “transferable”. Sharing one’s Divine Experiences is fine BUT, the onus is on you when that which you bring contradicts the Beliefs of others. Getting upset because others have not accepted your personal experience is a waste of Energy. Getting mad more so.
Sharing Spiritual Experiences is a dbl-edged Blade. Wear “gloves” and don’t hold it by the Blade:>
