Head start...
Jun. 30th, 2008 06:02 amGot that Banana producing method started. After we all went to the VFW for breakfast, I was rummaging through my Dad's crap pile for pots and noticed that one of his Cavandish Bananas had "pupped"...so I took it! Planted it in an area with good moisture and Sun, even used some of that fancy timed release fertilizer with the compost. I'll keep Feeding and Wateriong it well until near 1st Frost, then dig and store the bugger in the tool shed until Spring. If I've done right, it should Bloom in early Summer and begin to ripen about the 1st Freeze...
As it is, Bananas are Hardy around here but seldom Bloom and NEVER ripen before the Freezes. They are attractive plants in their own right though and the young leaves are great for Steaming things on/in. You don't eat them but they give the food a nutty flavour...
Truth,
Pat
