Quiet....

Saturday's unusually quiet...mostly since with the rain it's too Humid to clean the house. I follow the Icelandic Washday to get everything major done but with 100% Humidity, I'm not Interested in wet EVERYTHING today. So we rest. Sort of;>.
The last of the SUmmer veggies will be planted out tomorrow, including those rare purple-fleshed Sweet Potatoes. The Okinawan ones didn't make it. Hopefully, I can talk a listmate of mine on one of my Homesteading lists out of a tuber or two for next yr.
I discovered a nursery a few hrs away that's big into Permaculture and have been cooresponding with the owners about ideas for my property. As much as I love Plums and Nectarines, they talked me out of them, which is funny because they sell them. They told me that they wouldn't do well in my local conditions(sandy soil, nematodes, high Humidity, etc). They certainly made themselves a loyal customer and I've not ordered anything from them yet;>! Honesty and Decency should always be rewarded.
They pretty much focused me down to an ASian Pear, an Ugli Citrus and a Peach(eitehr a Snow or a CHinese Donut). While they have problems with nematodes, they don't with the fungal diseases that Nectarines and Plums get. Maybe a Saijo Persimmon, though I get enough Fuyus from the folks' tree. I've got two Banana trees coming later in the month recommended for my area. That'll give us fruit from at least one tree next Fall. All the Papayas are potted up into gallon containers. Probably by mid-September they'll be ready for their last potting before going out in the yard next Spring.
Other than that, not much.
Cheers,
Pat
