I've always loved old Photos, both of my family and those in General. One thing I had Noticed but didn't Think about until recently was the Changes in Appearance of the same family over Time and why it would be. After all, they're the same Genes...Right?
Family Photos of the 1800's show a pretty singular "type" of Look in the family. Rounded, Child-like faces and Chunky Bodies. Beginning at the end of the Century to the late 1960's, Angular faces and what is sometimes referred to as Swimmer's or Cowboy bodies(Wide Shoulders, narrow hips). Starting in the "70's till today, It's a Chunky face and Body. Still, the same Genes.
My Theory has to do with Diet and Exercise. 'Course, since my Mom has a collection of family cookbooks/recipies from the 1820's till today, it's not surprising I'd come to that conclusion by what folks cooked.
Up until the late 1800's, the recipies were Heavy Starch, low Veggie Fruit and Meat. In the late 1800's Meat became a Staple with Starches the equal or 2ndary. Starting in the "70's Starches are back as Primary with Meat as 2ndary. Until the "70's", even Officeworkers had a bit of Exercise in the form of Walking, now removed to to walkways, elevators even for a couple floor-tall buildings. Now, few get "incidental Excersise unless thy live in a city like San Francisco;>!
Humans Evolved in Resource-Poor regions and their Bodies are designed to Maximise Survival in them. We aren't designed to "deal" with Nutrient-rich sources in Abundance. It means Mind has to Overcome Body and we Know the conditions of many of our Fellow Citizens...including ourselves!
Cheers,
Pat
