mdehnersI've mentioned the site before, recommended by one of our local pwas...sort of a Facebook for hiv/aids. It is a surreal place for me since it is soooo "mainstream". This is the place where nice corn-fed Red staters go when they get Infected by either errant spouses or because they thought they didn't have to worry about hiv since it's a Blue state Homo sort of thing. Spirituality is either VERY mainstream or the most B. Daltoneque of newage thought. Whining about how unfair it was for THEM to get Infected, esp. the college girls who didn't think mult partners at Spring Break could give them anything because they only picked "jocks",White guys or those under 25. It's what happens when "Middle Americans" get hiv/aids and for those of us from other cultures(Gay, Progressive,cities with less churches than Mcdonalds,etc)truly Alien.
Recently I had to have a conversation online that most of us here on LJ only run into at family dinners, the non-JCI religion = Atheist BS. In their minds the default is simple, no Jesus/Jehovah/YHVH/Allah=Atheist. The concept that you Beleive They exist but have no Interest at all in them is such that is totally Incomprehendable to them. The few Gay members on the list like my "Rabble-rousing"(though I don't see answering questions Honestly as such but as I'm learning about the Politics of Corn-fed, Mary Kaye painted, Corn fed Het women...)but I don't "get it". Think 'Cosmo', including polls about sexy men(with disclamers that only women may Vote)and Dating tips...
The attitude is quite simple. YOU(fill in the blanks) deserved this punishment form God, WE didn't. WE aren't Interested in anything you have to say, even though you've dealt with what WE are now going through because it is "Tainted". WE have to let YOU on our site otherwise aids/hiv zines and sites would drop us and that's how we Recruit. WE don't have to like you, support you or even Listen to you...no matter how much experience you have. I mean, some of you actually WOrship Cartoon characters!?!
