Letter to the Editior...
Dec. 25th, 2008 07:44 amBelow is a letter to the Editor of our local paper about "Happy Holidays"....
A Christian friend of mine was Shocked when I wished her a “Merry Christmas”. She figured since I wasn’t a Christian that I’d use the generic “Happy Holidays”. I explained that I ALWAYS wish my Christian friends a “Merry Christmas”. I also wish my Hebrew friends “Happy Hanukkah” and my Wiccan friends “Joyous Yule”. I ONLY use “Happy Holidays” when I don’t know the religious affiliation of someone…out of RESPECT, not some “PC” directive. The difference is that I don’t automatically assume everyone I meet is a Christian who Celebrates Christian Holy Days, so I don’t greet them AS one would a Christian. Again, a sign of Respect….
Sincerely,
PT Duffy
