Cringe....
May. 13th, 2009 08:20 amWe have a local "family" station. Not one of those "Cheezits,-24/7" ones though. It plays old Movies, Movie Serials and VERY old TV series. The thing is, it plays stuff that few folks under 50 have ever seen.
If you're the sort that cringes at 'Gone With the WInd', you'd NEVER be able to cope with it's offerings. Even for me sometimes I cringe and I Understand that this was the STANDARD not some R-Wing production. That's just the way folks saw the WOrld in the 30's through early 60's. Watching some of the old "Singing Cowboys" flicks you realise how much even the West has changed....for Good and Evil. As someone from the 21st Century the Latino and Black portrayals are disurbing, yet the Honesty, Honor and Decency also portrayed is something that is Disturbing for it's Absence in today's flicks. Even the "Stepnfetchits" of these flicks have a Dignity and Honor that the more "Enlightened" Black and Latino presentations today oft miss. Once you get past the Cringe Factor, it's Interesting that these characters are usually the ones that are teaching the kids in the flicks values like Honesty, Hard Work...just being a Good Person for the sake of Being a Good Person.
And while the bad guys wear Black Hats, NONE of them ARE Black....which is kind of Interesting, IMO.
