I'm reviewing the 3rd of McKinney's books because it's the best of his I've read and the 1st was well, a 1st;>. Also, the events in the other two books start with the events in 'FE'.
It's the near future and Houston's FUCKED!After 3 hurricanes that yr and another's on the way. The city's flooded with a stew of Human, Industrial and Medical Waste. FEMA is even worse than in was during 'Katrina'in getting help to those trapped in the city, though are good at evacuating folks who can wade out of the city. As the next hurricane approaches, reports of Cannibalism come in to what authority is left in the city...which is squelched because of fear that what little sympathy AMerica has for the drowning Houstonians will stop if they think they're Savages.
McKinney's Zombies are of the 'Zombieland' variety, in truth, basically Rabid, Cannibalistic Humans with no surviving higher functions to their brains. The big problem(other than the unlikeability of the main character;>)of the 1st book is while the author kept stating this, his characters could only "put down" the "Infected" with a head shot...having your heart blown away wouldn't. This was even more annoying when you consider McKinney was a Homicide Detective for YRS......
A "fun" read if you like Zombie lit. It's also nice for a change to have the main character not only a woman but a strong, heroic one who protects her family as well as her fellow cits...
Cheers,
Pat
