A new coffeeshop openned in the strip mall 2 blocks away. I'd made a comment that I'd Feel Uncomfortable going in because of it's blatently Christian Decore(the sign has the Crusifiction, the windows Crosses and Fish and from what I can see through it Crosses and Biblical quotations on all the walls...). Appeaarantly, being non-Christian and Feeling Uncomfortable in such a place makes me a Bigot;>.
Now, I don't have a problem with members of ANY group prefering to support "Them and Theirs". I DO when I get called a Bigot when I DON'T give my support to them. I'm not a member of the "We're all Protoplasm Jiggling together" club. I Beleive that different Folks ARE Different. This doesn't mean anything beyond that....DIFFERENT. I'd HATE a garden with only one plant in one colour and I Feel the same about the Human "garden". I also don't bBeleive that the differences are "Cosmetic". Every time I hear that arguement I'm reminded of a character in one of David Eddings' series who Beleived that all People were the same, that the Differences(language, religion,etc) were simply "Cussedness" of Foreigners trying to be "Foreign";>....

Eww, what an exclusionist store. Even kosher delis used to be happy to give me a sammich so long as it didn't mix meat and dairy.

I will forever think the less of someone with a religion degree who had not learned in it to question that assertion that all religions share the same major values. Absolute poppycock, once you know anything about most indigenous religions, ours being just everybody's unfavorite example. Which is, I suspect, why the heavens are so different. Duh.

I expect their coffee is worse than Starbucks anyway.

Thing is, I don't have a problem with Christians(or any other group) wanting their own space and to be with their own. What I do, however is being considered a Bigot because I wouldn't Feel comfortable going into such a place.I Feel the same way going into a mosque or even a sportsbar. I don't belong there. The Idea that I should spend my money in such a place "In Solidarity" is where the R and L join....at least where Christianity's involved.
