I've used liquid soap for the last couple decades, ever since the early days of the aids Epidemic when it was recommended that we pwas switch to it from bar soap. It made sense. After all, what could be as "germy" as a wet bar of soap floating in a dish?
Well, this week I've had to deal with a rather nasty Staph infection. One area without infection was my face. This meant that the puff was the source. Now, I change them usually bi-monthly and toss them in the laundry weekly(which sometimes means I buy a new one earlier if I don't get there before Chuck tosses the clothes into the drier, leaving me with a potscrubber;>). So I started thinking. I only used the bar soap to wash back when i did, so there was nothing to be a reservoir except the soap, which if rinsed and placed on something that allowed it to actually dry between washes would be almost as safe as straight from the liquid soap's bottle. So, I've decided to switch. Today I picked up a proper drying rack for a bar and ordered some Lye soap(which is supposed to be better for problem skin than the detergent-based soaps). We'll see how this experiment goes. Considering my reaction seeing a patch on my leg look exactly like early stage Flesh-eating Staph(I gave it 2 days to improved with a combo of Tea Tree and Bacitracin), I wish to avoid that feeling again!
Cheers,
Pat
