I was reading the journal of a fellow E-Recon and the subject was one that I find amusingly annoying, the almost Obsessional need some in the Recon community Feel toward the Wiccan Yr Wheel. All Recons Know Intellectually there's no evidence for it's use during the historically non-C periods of Europe, yet their "Heart" seems to demand it's insertion. I've run into Celtic Reconstructionists who will point out that all the Yr Wheel Holy Days have Celtic names...which is a bit like pointing out "Japan" on a map and expecting the Inhabitants to speak English, because "Japan" is and English word FOR the nation of Nippon/Nihon;>. Some WERE actual holy days IN a particular Celtic culture but NO WHERE is there evidence where all 8 were celebrated.
Personally? Even though I'm Heathen I tend to Celebrate the cross quarter days, mostly because I tend to Think and arrange my Life Agriculturally...as far back as I can Remember. Nothing is more Cringeworthy to me than reading someone's "cookbook", blog/journal or speech where they'll say _____ is what the holy day MEANS and then plug in Deities that mythologically have little in common WITH _____.
Sigh....
Cheers,
Pat

They worked reasonably well with Wicca - but grate on me in any recon context, as do variants on calling the quarters or even of the Golden Dawn Middle Pillar exercise. But at this point I'm very much a lapsed Heathen, so my opinions of ritual have a certain built in invalidity.
