mdehnersBeginning with 'End Game', TCA series is a Climate Change Apoc series with a twist; unlike the VAST MAJORITY it isn't authored by a Conservative using Faux talking points....it's caused by Human Greed and Selfishness.
Set a couple of decades form now, the world is a much different place. The Plains are a Dust Bowl, as well as a band from Africa to the Sea of Japan. Weather is unpredictable and the "can" can no longer be "kicked". The bill has come.
The Calm Act was the Congress and Executive branches answer to give a CHANCE that there MAY be people in N America in the future...or even Life. At the beginning of 'EG', you see America retreated for the world militarily and economically. States are more like countries and travel is banned between for the majority of the population. The 70'30 laws mean for 30% hard news, 70% soft must be broadcast and that is still after Homeland Security looks at it. Then, a 1:2 punch; Ebola outbreak in New York and a massive quake on the West Coast cause martial law to be declared and state borders sealed. Whatever is in your state is what you survive with...no outside help.
In the 1st book you learn what the Calm Act is supposed to do; to "cull" the US population to a level sustainable under expected conditions. Basically, to prevent complete collapse and a possible ELE. Much of America works for companies who are preparing "arks", hoping to earn a berth if things go tits up. The series follows through the collapse of the USA to the beginnings of nation states in the NE and how they deal with everything from climate-related disasters to those caused by Humans...purposefully or through Ignorance....
