series recommendation: 'The Watch'
Jan. 21st, 2021 09:48 amWhenever I hear that a beloved book or author's work(s) have been made into a movie or series I CRINGE. For every Lord of the Rings Trilogy there's a Hobbit, a Dresden Files or even worse, a Midnight Texas;>. So far I've been pleasantly surprised....
Set in Ankh-Morpork on Terry Pratchett's Diskworld It's a few centuries later than the books are set. Those are clearly Medieval, this is late 19th-early 20th. Still Magic powered(CCTV cameras are little imp studios who paint at lightspeed what they see for instance;>). The major characters and a few new one's with some VERY creative choices like a tall man to play Cheery, a "modern" Dwarf female who shaved her beard and wears makeup or Lord Vetinari(the city's ruler) played by a woman AS a woman...possibly Trans. While I didn't picture Angua(the werewolf) or Captain Vimes as they are cast I like the choices. So far my only complaint is killing off Sergeant Detritus, the only Troll on the Watch.
The series so far takes from a number of the Watch books at different times and stitches them together so don't expect things to turn out as the books did;>...
And DAMN! did they pick the right actor to play Carrot Ironfounderson, a 6'+ Dwarf
Cheers,
Pat
